The most recent statistics, reported in The Pharmaceutical Journal, highlight that community pharmacy professionals have the poorest access to language barrier services, with 86% reporting no access at all, despite being a primary point of care, thereby impacting the consistency of care.
This comes when pharmacies face increased workloads with the introduction of Pharmacy First consultations. Boots alone reported in August that it had delivered over 1 million Pharmacy First consultations since its launch in January 2024. However, with more people seeking help from pharmacists as a first port of call, effective tools are needed to help overcome patient language translation challenges.
